We are seeking Part Time Seasonal Watercraft Inspectors to work at Public Access sites on Lake Vermilion, Burntside Lake, Ely Lake, Pelican Lake, Fall Lake, Moose Lake, Snowbank Lake, and Lake-Ore-Be-Gone.

The Watercraft Inspector serves to INFORM and EDUCATE the public of the threats of ecologically harmful aquatic invasive species to our area lakes. Inspectors work at public water access sites educating the public by providing information to watercraft users and conducting a brief survey while inspecting the watercraft for invasive species. All inspectors hired must receive Level 1 DNR Watercraft Inspector training (paid).
Work is mostly on weekends and holidays from Fishing Opener (May) through September/October.
Part time to Full time hours available but not guaranteed.

Starting inspectors will be paid $12.50/hour. The number of hours and the days you work is somewhat flexible.

Personal transportation to the lake access is required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks
  • Ability to work Independently with minimum supervision
  • Willingness to work odd hours and in adverse weather conditions
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental work
  • Ability to be assertive in order to uphold the standard of training for Level 1 inspector


  • To qualify for a Watercraft Inspector position:
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be 18 years old or older
